It seems that LG is going to join Alcatel, GeeksPhone and ZTE in the Firefox OS market. During an interview with Bulgarian online outlet Dnevnik.bg, LG’s mobile communications head in Bulgaria, mister Dimitar Valev, has spilled the beans on company’s plans for the future. While he tried to refer only to plans that regard Bulgaria, it’s obvious that he also spoke about LG’s global strategy.
Mister Valev said that LG is also looking to come up with a new tablet, phablet and even a smartwatch. We have seen rumors regarding a Firefox OS smartwatch, but no prototypes have yet surfaced and it’s interesting to see how the Firefox OS operating system will have to be modified in order to match a different kind of hardware.
LG’s first Firefox OS phone to come in early 2014
What’s really curios is that Valev said LG is also looking into flexible LCD technology. The projected launch date for the Firefox OS smartphone is said to be the first quarter of the next year. Until then, LG will have enough time to observe how are Firefox OS devices being received by consumers. We know one thing – the ZTE Open was quickly sold out on eBay UK and eBay US.
Having announced its support for Mozilla’s Firefox OS platform at the Mobile World Congress in February, LG is apparently keeping its word and coming with their first Firefox OS device in early 2014.
